Benjamin Sommerset, affectionately known as ""Ben Jo"", 78, of Savannah, Georgia transitioned to Glory on October 1, 2014 at his residence, among family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1707 Bull Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401, Father Frank Higgins will be officiating.
Burial will be held on Wednesday per our scheduled appointment to be announced on Monday, October 6, 2014 at Beaufort National Cemetery with military honors.

Benjamin was born on March 1, 1936 to Lucille Fulton and Benjamin Sommerset. He graduated from Beach High School. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Savannah State College and his Master's Degree in Physical Education from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. On April 15, 1962 he married the former Georgianna Sharpe in Savannah, Georgia. Benjamin was a Special Forces, Master Sergeant with the United States Army, where he served as a medic. He spent the majority of his career in the City of Savannah's Educational School System: beginning as a teacher at Sol C. Johnson High School, and Assistant Principal at both Meyers Middle School and Windsor Forest High School. He also worked as an Administrator at the Windsor Forest Community Center, where he taught yoga classes. Benjamin was raised in the ways of the Lord at Belmont Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He is a parishioner at sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a true disciple of the Lord and lived a life fashioned after Christ. Benjamin spent most of his weekends gardening and perfecting his love for landscaping. His passion was exploring the Bible and he was a consummate learner. Whenever possible, he and his wife also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Benjamin is survived by two daughters, Dr. Angela Sommerset of Huntsville, Alabama, Michelle Sommerset-Brown and her husband( David ""Kwan"" Brown) of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren, David Coney, Jr, David ""Kwan"" Brown II, and Jarrod Benjamin Brown; his sister, Delores Mungin and several nieces, brother-in-law, Hilton Sharpe and his wife James Etta, cousins, Sara Jefferson, Harold Blake (Debra), Thomas Moore, Sammy Keizer, Anna Thompson as well as a host of nieces and nephews: Krystal Walker, Hilton Sharpe Jr., William D. Jefferson, Audrey Marshall, Wanda Lloyd, Antionette Adams and Kimberly Baker.
