Mrs. Mary Seabrook Kidd,83, had her transition Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Riverview Care Home under the excellent and professional care of Odyssey Hospice. She was born to Fredrica Campbell and William H. Seabrook, II on December 1, 1925 and was affectionately names ""Peanut"" or ""Sister"". The Savannah, GA native lived in New York from 1952 to 1976. She attended public and parochial schools of Chatham County. Mrs. Kidd attended St. Mary's Catholic Church. In furthering her educational pursuits, she attended South Carolina State College now South Carolina State University, She was full of wisdim and knowledge of history. As a watchful neighbor and observer, she was the griot of the neighborhood in her quiet manner. Mary left Savannah in 1952 seeking better opportunities in Brooklyn, NY. She retired as a Cashier with the New York Telephone Company. In 1976, she relocated to Savannah to care for her ailing mother. As she settled back into her cherished neighborhood and family homestead, she was also known as a consummate cook and seamstress. Her pound cakes were the talk of the town. She was seamstress for many prominent people in Savannah. In speaking with her, she was a walking and talking encyclopedia. One of her greatest remembrances was her account of Philippe Schuyler who made an appearance at the Old Savannah Municipal Auditorium. Her command of the English language was impeccable, and her enunciation was secondto none. Mary was truly a learned woman as evidenced by her use if words.
Her life was filled with numerous experiences. She was an avid reader, and she could recite so many poetic pieces glibly. She had a gleam in her eyes as she related stories with such enthusiasm. Her words led her friends and peers to read those masterpieces.
She was briefly married to the late Carl Moore before moving to New York. After taking up residence in New York, she was united in matrimony with the late Richard J. Kidd. Their daughter Mary Cecile was born out of this union, Mary truly respected her daughter in her later life. Mary Cecile was her sole caregiver; both enjoyed their time spent together. The apple of her eye was her grandson Damian, whom she taught about the finer things in life. Today, Damian, an accoplished businessman, still prefers fine living.
Mary was the only ""Sister"" to three brothers; william H. Seabrook, III, Fredrick Vincent Seabrook, and Alvin Seabrook. William amd Vincent preceded her in death.
Suvivors: a devoted daughter, Mary Cecile Hill of Savannah, GA.; her beloved grandson, Damian Mack of Atlanta, GA; a dear brother, Alvin Seabrook of Los Angeles, CA; a loving niece, Tammara Anderson of Los Angeles, CAlifornia; a special aunt, France Bazemore of Savannah, Georgia; a special friend, Eleanor Williams Murdock; a host of other relatives and friends.
She was also truly loved by the staff at Riverview Health and Rehabilitation Center, who affectionately called her ""Peanut"".
Funeral service: 2:00pm Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Adams Funeral Services, Inc Chapel, 510 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, GA. Public viewing: Friday, February 20, 2009 from 9:00am to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Kidd will lie in state Saturday at the funeral som from 9:00am until hour of service.
