“I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord,

make me dwell in safety” -  Psalm 4:8

Mrs. Mary Bangs Johnson was born on March 16, 1955 to Peter Brown and the late Elizabeth Brown.

She was educated through the local public school system of Savannah-Chatham County and was a 1972 graduate of Richard Arnold High School.

Mary was baptized at Second Arnold Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor George Dingle in the year of 1963 at the age of 9.  She was a member of the Junior Choir under the direction of the late Sis. Viola Maynor, and the Gospel Chorus.  Presently, she was a member of the Mission and Sunday School Class #7 where she was often representing the class when the review of the lesson was asked during the General Assembly.

Mary always greeted you with a warm smile and asked. “How are you doing?”  She never complained about not feeling well or pitied herself.  She had a sweet willing spirit, love and commitment to her church, her pastor, and to her family.

She was employed at Memorial Health for 15 years as a Unit Clerk and later was employed by Candler Hospital for 18 years as a Day Surgery Admittance Clerk and as an Insurance Verification Clerk.

We feel that Jesus was with her in her last hour, and put his everlasting arms beneath her and held her fast.  Her beautiful life will be forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew her.

She was preceded in death her mother, Elizabeth Brown, her son, Ruben Bangs, a sister, Shirley Simmons, two brothers, Eddie Brown, Jr., Franklin Brown and a stepson, Hubert Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Hubert Johnson, Sr., two daughters, Shantrell Dondelle and Teshia Elizabeth Bangs; her father, Peter Brown, sister-in-law, Eva Johnson; two brother-in-laws, Oscar and Leroy Johnson; two sisters, Deloris Polite and Gail (Walter) Washington, one step-son, George Johnson, three step-daughters, Melissa, Johnson, Jennifer Johnson and Shenise Scott; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

                                                                                                            Psalm 27:1
