Mr. Leroy Pace, Sr., 83, had his transition Monday, March 30, 2009 at Candler General Hospital, surrounded by his very loving and devoted family,

Bro. Leroy Pace, Sr., the eldest of five children, was born December 11, 1925 to the union of the late James and Geneva Pace. Two siblings, Harold and Georgia Lee, preceded him in death.

A native of Savannah, he received his education through the public school of Chatham County School System.

He met his wife, Phoebe Ward Pace 68 years ago and enjoyed 61 loving years of marriage. Out of this marriage, five wonderful children were born.

Mr. Pace worked at Claussen Bakery, Savannah Coca Cola Bottling Company and the National Maritime Union. He retired as a Merchant Seaman from the National Maritime Union April, 1987. His job took him to different countries around the World and he delighted in sharing his experiences with his family and friends.

Bro. Pace was always very generous in bringing gifts for family and friends from the many Countries he traveled. After retirement, he leisurely enjoyed his family, friends and cherished in telling jokes and stories og his life.

He became a member of Second Arnold Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor George Dingle. He served faithfully with the Trustee Ministry and participated as a member of the Second Arnold Brotherhood. In November. 2004, he was bestowed the honor of being Trustee Emeritus.

He leaves to celebrate and cherish his many memories: a devoted and loving wife, Phoebe Ward Pace of Savannah; three sons: Leroy (Gwenetta) Pace, Jr. of Savannah, Garnell (Frances) Pace of Ellenwood, GA, and Anthony (Cynthia) Pace of Savannah; two daughters: Gloria V. Pace and Virginia Gale Pace of Laurel, MD' brother, Matthew (Margie) Pace and sister, Janis Pace, both of Savannah; ten grands; seven great-grands; a devoted cousin, Betty Coleman; surrogate sons: Ronnie Bisard, Isaiah Hyman, Jr., and Chester Butler; surrogate sisters: Louise Johnson and LaRena R. Hymon, all of Savannah; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service: 11:00am Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Second Arnold Baptist Church, 1427 East 37th Street, Savannah, Georgia.
Mr Pace will lie in state at the church from 9:00am until hour of service> Interment: Magnolia Memorial Garden Cemetery,5530 Silk Hope Road, Savannah, Georgia.
