Lawrence B. Capers

August 17, 1932 — May 13, 2012

Lawrence (Larry) Bernard Capers passed away on the morning of May 13th. He was born in Savannah to the late Reverend Eugene Aiken Capers and Annie Mae Wilkins Capers. He was one of eight children born to this union. He is preceded in death by siblings Eugenia Pequella, Delores Spivey, and Albert and Daniel Capers.
As a youth, Larry attended the historic Gillespie Selden Institute in Cordele, GA, and Cuyler-Beach High School here in Savannah. Larry served in the US Airforce as a Medic at the rank of Airman, 1st-Class. Thereafter, he and Ella Marie Solomon were married and three children were born from this union.
Larry's food and beverage career spanned numerous fine dining establishments from the Hartford City Club, The Windsor House, (both in Greater Hartford, CT), and The Drake Hotel in Chicago, to the King and Prince Inn and Bennie's Red Barn on St. Simons Island, GA. He also co-owned C and C Catering with the late Wilma Castellio of St. Simons Island.

Larry enjoyed golf, NASCAR auto-racing (a long-time Daytona 500 ticket holder), hunting and fishing, traveling and cooking. His culinary skills were renowned among friends and family, and he was truly a grill master.

Larry is also preceded in death by an infant son, Clifford. He leaves to mourn his devoted wife and travel companion of 33 years, Cheryl Williams Capers, his daughters, Tina Capers-Hall (John), Gina Capers-Willis (Timothy) grandchildren, Ian and Gabrielle, siblings Eugene, Charles and Corrie (Johnson) Capers, brothers-in-law Harold Williams and Steven (Sharon) Davis and a host of family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held privately on Thursday, May 17, 2012.
