John Thomas McGruder

January 5, 1955 — November 17, 2008

Mr. John McGruder, 53, had his transition Monday, November 17, 2008 in Bryan County after a sudden illness.

A native of Augusta, GA, he attended the public schools of Richmond County, including
Evans High School. He relocated to Savannah, GA over thirty years ago.

He was employed with numerous Funeral Homes. He once was employed with Stone Container, and Waste Management. He was presently employed as a Truck Driver for Republic Waste Services.

His parents: Tom McGruder and Willie Bell McGruder, two brothers Cecil and Willie James McGruder, preceded him in death.

Survivors: his devoted wife of eighteen years, Hattie Berry McGruder of Savannah; loving daughter, Mikayla Assad and stepdaughter, Tosheba Nickea Bing of Savannah, GA; four sisters: Georgia (Roland) Smith, Betty McGruder, Juanita (Beverly) Johnson, all of California, and Ruthie (Henry) Williams of Augusta, GA; brother, Charles McGruder of Augusta, GA; two aunts: Annie Lou Williams amd Rosa Lee Reid, both of Augusta, GA; two sisters-in-law: Johnny Mae Moore of Charleston, South Carolina and Geneva Berry of Savannah, GA; three brothers-in-law: Robert (Carolyn) Berry, Jr. of Savannah, GA, James Berry of Bronx, New York and Sam Berry of Tacoma, Washington; goddaughter, Nicole Golden; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service: 11:00am, Monday, November 24, 2008 at Adams Funeral Services, Inc Chapel, 510 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, GA. Public viewing: Sunday, November 23, 2008 at the funeral home. Mr. McGruder will lie in state from 1:00pm - 8:00pm at the funeral home. Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery, Skidaway Road at the corner of 52nd Street, Savannah, GA. 31404
