Mrs. Janie Lee Moody of Augusta, GA entered into eternal rest on Sunday evening, December 20, 2009 at the Memorial Health Medical University Center in Savannah, GA after a brief illness. Homegoing Services will be held on Monday December 28, 2009 at 1:00p.m. at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 931 Cedar Street, Augusta, GA with the Reverend Dr. Oscar Wells Presiding.
Janie was born July 31, 1928 in Augusta to James and Mary Ann Scott. She attended the public schools in Augusta. She retired in 1991 from Murray Biscuit Company after thirty- nine years of dedicated service. She was active in several of the church ministries, including The Sunday School, Golden Agers, Senior Choir, Hospitality Ministry, and the Missionary Circle at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. A willing servant, she was active in community service throughout her life. Janie worked with the Neighborhood Association, and the Fashionettes Social Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents ( James and Mary Ann Scott ) and her beloved sister (Willie Mae Gunter ) and brother in law ( John Gunter ), and two nieces ( Cordelia Gunter and Betty Williams ). She leaves to cherish her memories and works, an aunt, Corrie Williams (Brooklyn, New York), uncles Timothy Williams and Arthur Williams (Aiken S.C. ); a nephew, Dr. Randy (Anne ) Gunter ( Statesboro); a grand niece, Adria Gunter (Hyattsville, MD ), A number of godchildren including, Phyllis Lewis Thomas ( Hephzibah, GA ); devoted cousins, Rosa B. Lewis and Deborrah Wilcox ( Augusta ); and a devoted friend, Gwen Collier ( Statesboro ), and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 27 from 6 to 8p.m. at the W. H. Mays Mortuary, 1221 James Brown Blvd. Augusta GA. In state Monday at the Church at 11a.m. until the hour of service.
