Retired-Police Major Frank Ingram, III, 78, the former Deputy Chief of Police for the City of Savannah, had his transition Thursday, February 26, 2009 under the excellent and professional care at Hospice Savannah, Inc. in Savannah, GA.
He was a Savannah native who graduated from Alfred Eli Beach High School and Savannah State College, now Savannah State University. After serving in the Korean War, he joine the Savannah Police Department (SPD). He was the first black officer promoted to Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and Major. He was a founding member of NOBLE (National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executive). He was a gun enthusiast and reloader who led the SPD pistol range scores. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Frank Ingram, Jr. and Wilhelmina Girardeau Ingram amd his brother Earl Ingram.
He leaves behind his sister, Shirley Mosley, ex-wife and friend Safronia Ingram; two children, Frank, IV (Lora) and Julia Ingram Daverne; three grandchildreen: Frank V, Jewel and Courtland.
A memorial service will be held 11:00am at St. Philip Monument AME Church, 1112 Jefferson Street, Savannah, Georgia.
