Eugenia Simmons Durden Glover

Mrs. Eugenia Simmons Durden Glover, 85, had her transition, Monday at her residence, under the excellent and professional care of Hospice Savannah, Inc, surrounded by her loving and devoted family.

The Savannah native was a graduate of Beach-Cuyler High School, where she excelled in athletics. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Savannah State College(now Savannah State University) and a Masters of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education for Savannah State-Armstrong State Graduate Center. She also studied at Temple and Georgia Universities. She retired in 1981 after five years in Liberty County as a Coach and a Primary Teacher and thirty years in Chatham County as a Primary Teacher. She also served as a Reading and Mathematics/Specialist in the Corrective Reading Program.

Mrs. Glover was a life-long member of St. James AME Church, where she served as a Teacher in the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, Church Historiographer, as a member of the Steward Board, Lay Organization, Senior Choir and Chairperson of the August Birth Month Fellowship.

Mrs. Glover's Civic affiliations were: Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Kappa Delta Pi, Elegant Ladies Social/Civic Club, A.E. Beach High Athletic Hall of Fame Association, Frank Callen Boys and Girls Club Alumni Association, Friends (Reading Club), Georgia and Chatham County Retired Educators Associations.

Survivors: son Chaplain John G. Durden and his spouse Betty Durden of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Evangelist Patricia D. Johnson and her spouse Lucious Johnson of Pooler, GA; brother, Walter B. ""49"" Simmons, Sr. and his spouse Mary F. Simmons of Savannah; two sisters: Nellie S. Oxner of Charlotte, NC and Bessie S. Hunter; foster brother, Ephriam Alston; several grands; great-grands; nieces; nephews; cousins, god-children and friends.

Funeral services: 1:00pm, Friday, November 7, 2008 at St. James AME Church, 632 East Broad Street, Savannah, GA 31401, Reverend Stephen A, Lee, Pastor/Eulogist. Visitation: 6:00pm Thursday, November 7, 2008 at Adams Funeral Services, Inc. Chaple, 510 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, GA 31405. Mrs. Glover will lie in state from 10:00am until hour of service at the Church. Interment: Magnolia Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5530 Silk Hope Road, Savannah, GA 31408.
