Eugene Davis, 83, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, in the moments just beyond midnight, at his home 2215 Iowa St., under the loving care of his wife and family and the professional caring home care staff of Hospice of Savannah.
He was born in Walterboro, SC, on July 16, 1925, and later moved to Savannah as a teenager. He was educated in the Chatham County school system and matriculated at Savannah State (College) University, He also served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He retired from Kemira (formerly American Cyanamid), after 34 years as a mill-grind operator. He also served faithfully as a Deacon at Central Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his son Edwin Davis Sr.
He is survived by his devoted wife Ruth M. Davis, three sons, Eugene A. Davis (Cheryl) of Marion, OH, Gerome Davis (Angelina) of Scottsdale, AZ; Barry Davis of Savannah; three daughters Elaine Dixie of Fostoria, OH, Patricia A. Welch of Savannah, and Jeanette D. Lumpkins (Leslie) of Peachtree City, GA; 16 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren
Funeral service will be held 12 Noon, Monday, July 13, 2009 at Central Missionary Baptist Church, 738 Hitch Drive (Hitch Village), Rev. Larry J. Stell, Pastor. Viewing: Sunday, July 12, 2009 from 12 Noon to 5pm at the funeral home. In state: Monday at the church from 9am until hour of service. Interment: Hillcrest Abbey East.
