Mr. Edward Timothy Addison,Sr., 65, the husband of Mrs Ellen Addison, had his transition Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital in Savannah, Georgia surrounded by his loving and devoted family.
He was born on September 18, 1943, in Jerico, Florance County, South Carolina to Frank Addison and Cora White Addison. After the death of his parents, Edward along with his sister Geraldine and her twin brother Jerry, who preceded him in death, moved to New York to live with their older brother, Allen Jessie (Bubba) and his wife, Emma Lee (Sister) Hayward.
At seventeen, he joined the United States Army and served in many capacities until he retired. While in the Army, he served first in Germany and was trained for Vietnam. He was a Sergent over his troop's Mass Hall. In 1990, he was deployed to serve in Operation Desert Storm in Kuwait. He retired from active duty, September 18, 2003 with honors as a Green Beret.
Edward returned to New York and on July 11, 1968, he married the sweetheart he met when he was seventeen and never forget Ellen Jeanette Bing. To this union was born Edward, Jr., Tuyoro, Leyoro and Kiyoro.
Also in 1968, he joined the New York Police Department; here he served in many capacities. First, as a Patrolman and then as an Undercover Officer. He was promoted to Detective and worked in Internal Affairs before retiring from the New York Police Department.
In 1989, he moved his family to Savannah, Georgia. Here he joined the Chatham County Sheriff Department and served there one year. Here Eddie worked in many different capacities. His last position was that of a Star Corporal and due to poor health, Eddie retired on March 1, 2009. Edward Timothy Addison, Sr., was a hard worker. He worked with diligence to provide for the family he loved.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife of forty years. Ellen Jeanette, who was at his side when he was called home; son, Edward Timothy, Jr. (Tremalinda)of Savannah, Georgia; three daughters: Tuyoro, Kiyoro and Leyoro Addison(Mark) Carpenter, all of Savannah, Georgia; his precious grandchildren: Amari Addison, Timothy, Ryan, Mark, III, Casey, Mark II and Brett; his sister, Geraldine Addison of Columbus, South Carolina; a loving and devoted sister-in-law, Constance Rogers (Parnell) of Savannah, Georgia; several nieces: Laurie Addison of Columbus, South Carolina, Beverly A. Perkins of North Carolina and Marie Gibbs of New York; a nephew, Allen Hayward, Jr of New York; a host of other relatives, Co-worker (past and present) and friends.
Funeral service: 2:00pm Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Second Saint John Baptist Church,1323 Golden Street (West Savannah), Rev. Michael I. Lewis, Pastor/Eulogist. Public viewing: Friday, May 1, 2009 from 9:00am to 7:00pm at Adams Funeral Services, Inc Chapel, 510 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, Georgia, Savannah Chatham County Police Department standing Guard. Mr. Addison will lie in state Saturday at the church from 11:00am until hour of service. Interment: Hillcrest Abbey West, 1336 Dean Forest Road.
