Adams announces the passing of Professor Annie Mae Samuels-Henderson, 92, who transitioned on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Savannah Square Assisted Living.
Adams announces funeral services of Professor Dr. Annie Mae Henderson (Samuels) which will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 23, 2019 in The Adams Chapel.
Interment: White Hall Cemetery.
Viewing: 10:00 A.M.-6:00 P.M., Friday at the funeral home.
OBITUARY:
Professor Annie M. Samuels Henderson was born in Stilson, Georgia to the late Deacon Walter Samuels, Sr. and Sis. Josephine Hendley Samuels on August 13, 1926. She graduated from Effingham County Training School and continued her education to Receive a bachelor’s degree from Savannah State College and later her master’s from Brooklyn College and then doctorate from Saint John’s University in New York City.
At an early age she confessed Christ as her savior when she joined her family church Marlow Missionary Baptist Church. Upon moving to New York, she joined the Tabernacle of Prayer for All People, in Jamaica Queens, New York under the late Apostle Jonnie L. Washington. She served on several ministries while there until her health failed.
She was married to the late Leslie Henderson in 1950.
She initially began her teaching career in Effingham County. She later moved to New York and continued her career in education until her retirement 1998.
While in New York Dr. Henderson was very active in her community. She served on various boards of institutions, Church boards and Civic groups. She not only served with her heart and hands; she gave with generosity of her means. She will be missed by so many that truly knew her.
Mother Henderson was preceded in death by her parents and seven of her siblings, also a Special niece Ms. Angela Harris
Mother Henderson is survived by her two sisters, Rev. Lucille Jones and Sis. Jeanette Samuels of Guyton, Georgia; a Special friend/ niece Ms. Donna Crawford, Ms. Sherry Hollis, Ms. Beverly Hudson, Ms. Diane Jones, Stephanie Brown and a host of other nieces, nephews, church members and other relatives and friends.
