OBITUARY:
John Dell Jackson was born August 14, 1946 to the late Dorothy Miller in Screven County. John went home to be with the Lord on January 14, 2019 with his loving daughters Keyona and Tigust at his side.
John was proceeded in death by his two siblings: Arnie Lee Miller and Lizzy Mae Scott.
John was educated in the Screven County School System. John met the love of his life Willie Mae Jackson in 1968 and they were joined in holy matrimony July 3, 1969.
After moving from Sylvania to Savannah John started his career as a truck driver. John was one of the distinguished drivers for Bulldog Trucking and Kelly Duke. John traveled many miles on the road mastering his craft. He was respected on his job as a man that had outstanding work ethics and cared not only about his job but the people he worked with. Due to a stroke in 1997 he was forced to retire. But that did not stop John. After recovering from his stroke John then had time to enjoy fishing one of his favorite hobbies. On any given day he could be found in his best fishing attire on the back-river. John would go out for hours and come back with everything from a catfish to a shark. When it came to seafood, he made sure the family had plenty.
John was a faithful member of Happy Home Missionary Baptist church since 1985. John served on many ministries to include the Senior Usher Board where he served as President. He was a member of the male and mass choir. He also took on the responsibly of being the custodian for the church. On March 28, 1993, he answered the call and was ordained as a deacon under the leadership of the late Pastor Frederick A. Fearby. He was not a deacon that just wore the title, but he worked and served the members. On any given Sunday morning you would find him lining a hymn, saying a prayer or sing his favorite song “Let It Be Real”. What he loved most all about Happy Home was his church family. For that reason he never complained about making sure the doors of the church were always opened.
He leaves to cherish his memory, A devoted and loving wife of 49 years Willie Mae Jackson, two daughters, Keyona Jenkins-Smith(Ronnie) and Tigust James(Keith) both of Savannah; Mother in law, Edna A Lemon of Savannah, GA; Father in law, TW Jenkins of Sylvania, GA; Goddaughter, Fallon Dumas of Savannah, GA; Sister in laws; Phyllis Jenkins, Latruce Jenkins both of Savannah; Sophie Barnes and Nora Green both of Sylvania, GA, Shirley Porter and Carolyn Bethea of Statesboro, GA; Lartreye Smith of Miami, Fl; Brother in laws; Paul Jenkins, Lonnie Jenkins, Kenny Jenkins all of Savannah, GA, Adam Barnes and Tommy Jenkins of Sylvania, GA; JR Smith of Miami, FL; Devoted friends Dennis Hendry and Willie Hicks.
