Deacon Howard Sams, 85, had his transition on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at Candler Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Howard Sams will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 28, 2016 at Historic Nicholsonboro Baptist Church.
Public Viewing: Sunday from 12:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
Instate: 9:00 A.M. until the hour of services.
Interment: Cedar Grove Cemetery.
OBITUARY:
Deacon Howard Sams was born on January 22, 1931 in Savannah, Georgia to the late Dianna Sams. He was the one of eight children.
He was educated in the Chatham County public school system. As a child he was baptized at the Historic Nicholsonboro Baptist Church. He later served there as a deacon for many years.
He served in the Unites States Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the Army. After his return to Savannah, he was employed by the Frank Chisholm family for many years until his retirement.
He was united in holy matrimony with the late Laura Famble on June 27, 1964. Together they raised three children.
He went home to be with the Lord on March 22, 2016. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Laura Famble Sams; his mother Dianna Sams; sisters, Henrietta Sams Harris, Flora Sams Holmes, and Josephine Sams Polite; and brothers Harry Sams and Adolphus Sams.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Sams and Leonora Parrish; one son Howard A. Sams; one brother in law Arthur Famble (Inez); three sisters in law Veronica Jackson (Joseph), Annette Cooley (Warner) and Delores Famble; five grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
