Commander Marilyn Denise Johnson

Commander Marilyn Denise Johnson, USN, 52, (Lithonia, GA), transitioned on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Dekalb Medical at Hillandale in Lithonia, Georgia.  Marilyn was born in Savannah, Georgia to Mr. Charles Johnson, Sr. and the late Mary Lee Brantley Johnson.  She was a 1981 graduate of Savannah High School and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Savannah State University.  In 1982, she proudly enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve and actively served until her time of death.  Marilyn spent the past 13 years working for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a Tax Examiner.

Marilyn is survived by her father, Charles Johnson, Sr.; sister, Carolyn (James) Grant; brother, Charles Johnson, Jr., all of Savannah, GA; two goddaughters, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.

Funeral service for Commander Marilyn Denise Johnson will be held 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at St. John Baptist Church "The Mighty Fortress" 522-28 Hartridge St. Savannah, GA 31401 Dr. George P. Lee, III, Pastor. Rev. Willie C. Rice, Jr., Eulogist.

Interment: Bonaventure Cemetery.

Public Viewing: Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 10:00 A.M.-6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
