Carrie Jane Hicks was born March 20, 1951 in Savannah, Georgia to James and Fannie Mae Hicks, Sr. She has 5 brothers and 4 sisters, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Carrie grew up a member of White Oak Baptist Church. She attended the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools and graduated from Tompkins High School in 1969. She also graduated from Savannah Vocational Technical School in 1971 with degrees in Nurse’s Aide and Child Growth & Development. Before she became a devout stay at home mother, she worked in various pre-school institutions and various departments at the Savannah Public Library.
Carrie adored and enjoyed raising 3 daughters (Jennifer, Trovat and Amanda) with the love of her life, Stanley Williams. Carrie was a loving grandmother to her one and only granddaughter Simone with whom she shared an incredible bond. She also shared her nurturing skills with 3 godsons (Sanchez Gardner, Willie Mack and Alfred Brown).
Carrie could not only light up a room with her beauty but she could transform it into a place you would never forget. She loved to talk, shop, watch movies, go to concerts, learn new technologies from her granddaughter and dish sound advice to her daughters. In her quiet time, her daughters could always rely on finding their mother reading the bible, watching her favorite preachers on television or listening to gospel music.
Resilience was Carrie’s silent nickname. She never gave up on anything, especially searching for a good deal. She took that perseverance into the greatest battle she had to face, which was cancer. With the word of God and with the love of her family, Carrie fought cancer with dignity, laughter, and grace.
On January 26, 2020, our amazing, beautiful, and wise Carrie Jane Hicks transitioned peacefully to God’s eternal keeping surrounded by her family at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Carrie enjoyed looking to the sky for God’s supernatural abilities. Now, as she rests from her labor among the angels, she can enjoy a front row seat to witness and assist our Lord with his masterpieces.
