Adams announces the passing of Dr. Clifford E. Hardwick, III, 91, who transitioned on Sunday, November 18, 2018 in Atlanta, GA.

A native Savannahian, Dr. Clifford E. Hardwick, III was born on September 4, 1927 to Clifford Jr. and Rosa Woodson Hardwick.  Dedicated to learning, Hardwick transferred his pursuit of knowledge to generations of students. He taught on all levels: elementary, secondary and college. He served as Chairman of the Biology Department of Alfred E. Beach High School for nine years before being appointed Supervisor of Secondary Education. He was the first person of his race to hold this position and was the highest-ranking African American in the public school system. Dr. Hardwick served as a tenured professor at the University of Georgia and Assistant Dean of the Coastal Georgia Center for Continuing Education. Clifford held membership in numerous professional, civic, religious, and fraternal organizations at the local, state, and national levels. A lifetime member of the NAACP, while serving as President of the Youth Council, he had the honor of introducing Thurgood Marshall at the Annual Freedom Fund Banquet. The recipient of many awards and citations for his outstanding service in the areas of education and civic involvement, Hardwick is listed in Outstanding Personalities of the World, holds an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Morris Brown College and was honored by the city of Savannah and Chatham County with October 24, 1982 being proclaimed “Clifford Hardwick Day.” Ordained a minister in the AME Church in 1980, Dr. Hardwick served as an Associate Pastor of St. Philip AME Church. In 1987, Hardwick was appointed to the Savannah City Council. He served the 5thDistrict for 15 years. In 1950, Clifford married the former Beautine Williams.  Of this union, were born two sons, Clifford IV and Kenneth Allen. Clifford is survived by Beautine, his wife of 68 years; his son Clifford IV (Joyce); sister-in-law, Christine Robinson; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and a community of friends.

Adams announces funeral services for Dr. Clifford E. Hardwick, III, which will be held 11:30 A.M., Monday, November 26, 2018 at St. Philip A.M.E. Church located 613 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Savannah, GA 31401.

Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M., Sunday, November 25, 2018 in The Adams Chapel.

Interment: Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
